Now I am firm believer of self development and believe that the power comes from within, but getting information from external sources can sometimes be the quickest way to learn something new, allowing your Ego relearn your new way of thinking so that new information can be received. Having the “I know” mentality can be the biggest block you can have when it comes to changing your life in a positive way. You see, you don’t KNOW anything until you HAVE what it is you desire, till you can see, feel, touch, hear the outcome you have been striving for. I learnt this when i was working in a team of educators, although I believed my own ability and was one of the strongest in the room I always had the mentality that I could get better and it could be from anybody in the room. Over the years I managed to pick things up from my boss, colleagues and even students I was teaching, wether it be a big thing that changes the game in a certain element of cutting or even just a shift in your awareness around your current situation, these are all steps to creative impactful change.
Fortunately I have always been in an environment where learning is present, even when I was leading a class and I had done the same demonstration time and time again I would constantly challenge myself to do it better each time. Ever heard the saying “you’re only as good as your last hair cut?” – my point exactly. If you find yourself not in this constant learning environment then it can lead to being stagnant or even starting to get bored of the daly occurrence with the same clients and haircuts being churned out over and over again.
Ask yourself: What environment does a high achieving, high earning, fully booked stylist thrive in? How do they act? Who are they? How do they show up to work? What is their WHY? and How do they feel about their work?
